The Semonkong Hospital Trust

A holistic, sustainable, community development programme

http://www.shp.org.za/

This project takes hands with the Semonkong Hospital Trust, December 2016 Mission. The Semonkong Hospital Trust is a faith-based, interdenominational, non-profit organisation. The Trust has been implementing a holistic sustainable community development programme since 2005. The main aim is to erect one of the very first eco-friendly, financially self-sustainable hospitals in the world. The hospital will be built in Semonkong, a town in the central mountain-region of Lesotho. Lesotho is a tiny country in Southern Africa completely landlocked within South Africa. The community is supported by sending mission teams on a regular yearly basis to Semonkong.  The next multi-disciplinary team will go to Semonkong from 25 November – 7 December and will consist of medical, agricultural, maintenance, children’s ministry, evangelism and bicycle teams.

The Trust sees this project as an opportunity to not only build a first-rate hospital in rural Lesotho but also to establish real, measurable and lasting socio-economic benefits to the surrounding communities. The aim is to demonstrate that the provision of health care goes beyond the building of a new facility and staff accommodation - it includes considerations of the overall welfare of the target population. To achieve this, the Trust envisions a combination of a high standard of healthcare delivery, agricultural and veterinary programmes, employment creation, training and development (skills transfer) and healthy economic growth, as well as an overarching impact strategy to be developed, applied, and monitored throughout the duration of the project and beyond.
